Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along the Underground Railroad
April 7 - May 21
Exhibit creator and photographer Jeanine Michna-Bales spent more than a decade meticulously researching those fleeing slavery and the ways they escaped. While the unnumbered routes of the Underground Railroad encompassed countless square miles, the path Michna-Bales documented encompasses roughly 2,000 miles and is based on actual sites, cities, and places that freedom-seekers passed through during their journey.


GALLERY TALK - Quilts of the Emancipated
May 6 |11am - 12pm
Textile Artist Allyson Allen will present her replica quilts created in honor of emancipated women who told their stories through quilt making, using applique techniques, and textiles of western Africa. The featured quilt is a replica of The Pictorial Quilt by emancipated slave Harriet Powers, which examines the juxtaposition of biblical stories along with real-life tales.

Second Saturday: Cultural Celebration 
APRIL 8 - NORTH  MACEDONIA | 11am-1pm

Celebrate the history and Heritage of North Macedonia culture with food, live music by LA Macedonian Ensemble, crafts, activities, a scavenger hunt, and a free art lesson with instructors from Bigfoot Art Classes.

Earth Day Celebration
SAT | APR 22, 2023 | 9am - 11am
 What better way to recognize Arbor Day than by celebrating on Earth Day? Join the City of Temecula Community Services team for a commemoration of both Arbor Day & Earth Day at Sam Hicks Monument Park (41970 Moreno Road). The morning will be filled with family-friendly activities, educational booths, ceremonial tree planting, and light refreshments. In addition, you can visit with local groups such as Temecula Valley Garden Club and Sierra Club, as well as other organizations that will encourage the community to embrace this year’s Earth Day theme: Invest in Our Planet.

Emerging Artist Mural Project: Cesar Chavez
MAR - APR
The Emerging Artist Mural Project seeks to support local artists by providing a space to showcase their craft. Every other month either emerging or student artists are given the opportunity to paint a mural on varying topics.

For March and April, we acknowledge the movement that Cesar Chavez led for migrant farm workers. This beautiful mural was created by a group of students at Great Oak High School led by their teacher, Marco Magallanes.



Temecula Valley Woman's Club: Art and Education Room
Visit the Art & Education Room, located on the second floor of the museum, for free educational activities and crafts in conjunction with the Emerging Artist Mural Project and the Tattooed & Tenacious exhibit. Visitors can enjoy self-guided activities including drawing your own tattoo design and coloring in Tattoo Flash. The art and education room will be closed Wednesday mornings and open at 12pm, due to an art class being in session.




Get Smart With Art Class

The museum Art & Education Room will continue to house an art class, Get Smart With Art, through the city’s contract classes!

Old Town Walking Tours
Take a guided tour of Old Town Temecula and hear the stories and events that bring Temecula’s past to life. Tours depart at 10:30am on select Saturdays and are $5 per person.
