5 Reasons We Love February

From Groundhog Day to Valentine's Day there's lots of fun packed into the shortest month of the year

1. Go crazy for the groundhog

Will he or won't he? Today is the day we find out if the groundhog sees his shadow! No matter if he does or not, celebrate the season by heading to Sky Park at Santa's Village to spend some time outside! Their Winter Wonderland event will run until February 19th.

3. Spreading the love

Valentine's Day in Temecula, Murrieta and French Valley! Plan a special date night out or Galentine's night. Check out our Galentine's article (coming soon) for some ideas. Want to stay home with the kids? Maybe you can make your own heart shaped pizza with a pizza making kit from Dreamdinners.

4. National Pizza Day

Oh pizza, how we love you. Let us count the ways: Cheese, pepperoni, anchovy, pineapple, spicy peanut butter (you can find this one at John's Incredible Pizza) .....we could go on, but you get the idea. Here is a favorite pizza place of mine especially since it has so much more than great pizza. I know the kids might agree too. What is yours?

5. Count those birds!

We're looking forward to adding the feathered friends who visit our bird feeders to the Great Backyard Bird Count! The goal of the annual Great Backyard Bird Count, a citizen science project, is to count as many birds as participants can find, and report those findings.

Want to participate? It's easy! Here's how: Decide where you will watch birds. Watch birds for 15 minutes or more. Count them! You can report back using the Merlin Bird ID app.

We love that you can do this at home with kids, but you can also take your bird counting on the road! A great place for birdwatching in the area?

Quail Mail Club sent us an awesome Trail guide with a scavenger hunt for the kids. This scavenger hunt also includes birds that are local to the area. Make sure to check them out for more trail fun and stay tuned as we will be trying out Quail Mail Club's Lake Skinner hiking kit for ourselves in February. Quail Mail Club has a wonderful monthly subscription that will make finding kid-friendly hikes in Southern California a breeze. Get outside and get into nature.
