Growing up with a competitive gymnastics background for 13 years, coupled with a passion for the capabilities of the human body, led Alyssa Peterson, Owner and Founder of AP Athletics, to explore the realms of sports and fitness. As a D1 athlete with a Kinesiology degree, she transitioned into coaching gymnastics, fostering a love for guiding kids in their athletic journeys. This passion evolved into the inception of AP Athletics, a unique youth fitness program aiming to instill healthy habits and make fitness a fun, engaging experience for kids in Temecula.
The idea for AP Athletics sprouted from a realization—what about kids not in sports, during off-seasons, or exclusively in skill-based training? Recognizing this gap, Alyssa envisioned creating a space that catered to overall health and fitness for youth.
"Our classes at AP Athletics focus on functional fundamental development, encompassing cardio, agility, strength training, injury prevention, and more. The goal is to make fitness enjoyable for kids, creating a natural, healthy habit early on. For instance, incorporating agility and cardio through activities like keeping a balloon in the air or engaging in relay races adds an element of fun to traditional fitness components.", says Alyssa Peterson.
Parents and kids can join AP Athletics through a free trial class, offered every Wednesday at 4 pm for ages 12-18 and every Friday at 4 pm for ages 7-11. No prior sports or fitness experience is necessary; all fitness levels are welcome.
AP Athletics stands out by prioritizing the overall well-being of children. Unlike sports that may focus solely on skill, their approach helps prevent overuse injuries by promoting strength and balance across various muscle groups. This holistic approach ensures functional fitness applicable to different daily activities.
Alyssa firmly believes in the significance of regular physical activity for children to establish healthy habits. Teaming up with parents, AP Athletics strives to prevent future health issues by instilling these habits early on and portraying fitness as enjoyable.
Working with children, including those with motor function disabilities, allows us to witness their growth and self-confidence. Through tailored exercises and positive reinforcement, AP Athletics empowers them to overcome challenges and realize their capabilities.
Maintaining children's motivation involves infusing purpose into exercises. By turning activities into games with specific objectives, such as keeping a balloon in the air, AP Athletics can distract them from fatigue, making fitness an enjoyable experience.
AP Athletics encourages families to try their first class for free, offers sibling discounts, and provides a free class for members who bring a friend. Beyond their classes, parents can support their children's active lifestyle by limiting screen time, engaging in outdoor activities, leading by example, and prioritizing nutritious meals.
AP Athletics is not just about fitness; it's a journey towards building a healthier, more active generation. With a commitment to making fitness fun and accessible, they invite families to join us in this empowering experience at AP Athletics in Temecula. Your child's first trial class awaits—let's embark on this journey together!
