A Message from the City of Temecula Manager

Greetings -
Have you noticed a surge in the popularity of e‑bikes in Temecula? Did your teenager or their friends receive an e-bike as a gift over the holidays? Among Mayor Stewart's initiatives for 2024 is to keep riders safe, along with those that share their path of travel.
In a press release published last week Mayor Stewart states, "E-bikes are emerging as both an efficient mode of transportation and a fun outdoor recreational opportunity that the City whole-heartedly supports, but we need to ensure riders are following the law for their own protection as well as those who travel along the same roads and trails." Throughout 2024, we'll be taking a closer look at e-bike regulations and creating more public awareness on safety measures. Of particular concern to the City and community are young riders who do not have experience navigating through traffic and are more inclined to engage in risky biking behaviors such as ignoring stop signs/traffic signals, riding at excessive speeds in pedestrian areas, crisscrossing roads in front of oncoming traffic, and performing stunts/wheelies in City parks and streets, oblivious to the dangers they are posing to themselves and others. The topic of e-bike safety will be placed on the next Traffic Safety Commission meeting agenda for general discussion and direction, and we invite you to join us! Members of the public are welcome to share their comments with the Commission about this important topic. The meeting will be held at City Hall on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 6pm. In the meantime, read here for work that is currently underway on the topic of safe e-bike riding, and stay tuned for more information throughout the year.

Do You Need Sand Bags?
Temecula is expected to experience continuous rain over the next week. Visit your nearest Temecula Fire Station between the hours of 8am - 7pm to pick up free empty sandbags (limit of 10 per resident). Then head over to the City-owned lot at the corner of Ynez and Santiago to fill them with sand. Don't forget to bring a shovel!

New Pipes are being Installed through July 2024
Eastern Municipal Water District is replacing pipes along Diaz Road and Rancho Way.
One northbound lane is closed along Diaz from Rancho California to Rancho Way. (One lane will remain open.)
Full closure of the bike trail along Diaz Road, south of Rancho Way.
Look for closure and detour signs.

City of Temecula Pavement Management Analysis

Have you seen this van? They're with us cruising through Temecula collecting street pavement data using high-tech lasers and computers to determine which streets need repair, slurry seal, and rehabilitation. Streets that are repaired when they are in a good condition will cost less over their lifetime than streets that are allowed to deteriorate to a poor condition, so this analysis helps the City prioritize 326 miles of roadways, encompassing over 8.8 million square yards of concrete and asphalt surfacing.

New Bridge Construction on I-15! - February 2024
(Temporary Full Closure of the Santa Gertrudis Pedestrian/Bike Trail)
The Santa Gertrudis Pedestrian/Bike Trail is closed between Ynez and Jefferson to allow for new bridge construction along Interstate 15 for the French Valley Parkway Phase 2 project currently under construction. This temporary full closure is scheduled through February.

Interstate 15 Auxiliary Lane Construction
The City is breaking ground in February on construction of a new Northbound I-15 (auxiliary) lane from Temecula Parkway to Rancho California Road. The project is another significant step to alleviate traffic congestion along Northbound I-15.

Google Solutions for Small Business and Startups (Wednesday, February 7 at 10AM): This specialized workshop will provide an overview of the Google Workspace and its advanced tools.
