Rain Safety Tips from Murrieta Fire & Rescue

February is Heart Month, and Murrieta Fire & Rescue urges you to be a lifesaver using the PulsePoint app. Stay informed about rain safety tips to navigate the February showers safely.

Free Sandbags: Protect your property from potential flooding! Residents can pick up up to 10 sandbags per household at Murrieta Fire Stations 1 & 2 (bring your shovel; supplies are limited).

Stay Away From Flooded Roads: Remember, "Turn around, don't drown!" It only takes a few inches of water to sweep away a vehicle. Choose alternate routes and avoid flooded areas altogether.

Vehicle Emergencies: If caught in moving water while driving, stay with your vehicle and call 9-1-1. If the water rises, climb onto the roof and wait for rescue.

Respect Road Closures: Don't move or drive around barricades or warning signs. They're there for your safety! City crews place them strategically to protect you from potential hazards.

Stay Informed: Keep an eye on weather updates from the U.S. National Weather Service and local authorities for the latest forecasts and advisories.

Additional Tips:

  • Secure outdoor furniture and decorations to prevent them from becoming windborne projectiles.
  • Clear rain gutters and drains to prevent rainwater overflow.
  • Charge your phone and battery-powered devices in case of power outages.
  • Have a flashlight and emergency kit readily available.

Following these simple precautions, you can safely navigate rainstorms and minimize potential risks. Stay safe, Murrieta!
